Episode 24- UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez Preview – MMA Nuts
Fireworks are guaranteed whenever current Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar enters the Octagon. We preview this very interesting matchup at UFC 121 between Brock Lesnar and challenger Cain Velasquez. Lesnar is coming off a submission victory against Shane Carwin, in which he showed his ever increasing mixed martial arts IQ. Cain Velasquez has been tearing through the UFC’s Heavyweight division boasting an undefeated 8-0 record with a recent knockout victory of former Pride Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
The co-main event features the UFC debut of Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields against Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann. This fight will set the tone for title contention at the UFC Welterweight division and should be exciting from start to finish. Shields comes off a very impressive victory over UFC Alumnus Dan Henderson and Martin Kampann handled Paulo Thiago in his last outing.
Diego Sanchez and Paulo Thiago are both in dire need of a win when they face each other in Anaheim on October 23rd. Diego looked horrible in his return fight to 170lbs and Thiago comes of a very lackluster effort against Martin Kampmann. Without a victory, either of these fighters are in danger of relegating themselves to undercard status.
Tito Ortiz has been plagued by injuries and looked unimpressive since his 2006 victory over Ken Shamrock. He meets a surging Matt Hamill that comes in with a four fight winning streak in the Light Heavyweight division. Wrestling should determine the winner in this bout and may signal the final curtain for future UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz.
Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub meets UFC veteran Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga in a very interesting matchup to start the PPV main card. Victory has eluded Gonzaga more frequently than not, having dropped two KO losses to Shane Carwin and Junior dos Santos. Schaub will take a much needed step up in competition when these two meet to determine which one has a shot of getting back into title contention in the Heavyweight Division.
