Huge, huge news today from the UFC as it looks like Alexander Gustafsson will not be getting his rematch at UFC 178, instead, Daniel Cormier’s day has come. The UFC just released a statement that Alexander Gustafsson suffered an injury and will be unable to compete at UFC 178. That has led for the UFC to call up Daniel Cormier for his shot at UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones at UFC 178.
This is huge news, with the UFC claiming that Jones/Gustafsson II is not canceled, but “postponed,” meaning that there is still hope for Gustafsson to face Jones in the future. For now, though, it is all Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. Sure, this isn’t the original fight but this is still a tremendous bout for sure. UFC 178 just got a little bit more interesting for everybody with this late replacement.
