The case of Holly Holm is a strange one, as the female MMA fighter and former boxer is picking up a lot of buzz as a big time prospect in the sport of MMA. It’s funny to me as Holly Holm has been an Albuquerque mainstay for a while now, one of the few local draws in Boxing and MMA. Chances are, if you are driving down the freeway you’ll see a billboard at some point promoting a Holly Holm fight here in town. That is probably one of the things that will hinder the 32 year old fighter from going “big time,” though, as her manager is also her promoter and promotes most of the events that she fights on here in town.
That being said, Dana White knows that people see big things for her and is apparently getting asked about signing her all of the time. Hell, he considers her like a female Conor McGregor. That is, without ever seeing her fight.
“You’re like the billionth person that’s asked me about Holly Holm. I was on the street the other day and some guy was like, ‘HEY! Sign Holly Holm.’ And I’m like, ‘yeah, I know. Everybody’s telling me.’ I haven’t seen her fight but I keep hearing about her. She’s like the female Conor McGregor. I thought Conor McGregor was a heavyweight when I was hearing about him. For some reason, that’s what I did. Holly Holm, I don’t know what she looks like, I’ve never seen her fight, but I know who she is.”
