Weidman Injured; Out of UFC 181 Bout with Belfort

UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman is out of UFC 181.

The news was broke via Vitor Belfort’s Facebook page that Weidman had broken his hand and that their fight has been postponed until February.

I’ve just received the news that Chris Weidman broke his hand and, for what everything points to, our fight is gonna be moved to February. We don’t usually understand God’s way, and even when we think we understand, He comes and shows us it’s nothing what we thought it was… God change our plan´s trajectory to always place us on something better or to prepare us for something better… I believe God knows what is best for our future and always reserve us the best.

“To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.” Prov. 16:1

My fight was delayed, but the training and the focus continues!

Following Belfort’s Facebook post, the news was later confirmed by UFC President Dana White via Twitter, saying that Weidman had suffered a hairline fracture and is currently in a cast.

With Weidman vs. Belfort no longer serving as the main event, UFC 181 will now be headlined by UFC Welterweight champion Johny Hendricks vs. consensus number one contender Robbie Lawler in a rematch of their UFC 171 bout.
