UFC 181 takes place on Saturday, December 6th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event will be headlined by a Welterweight title fight, a rematch between champion Johny Hendricks and number one contender Robbie Lawler. The co-main event will feature yet another title fight as UFC Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will return to action following injury and coaching stint on season 20 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and will face former Strikeforce Lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez.
All four fighters involved in main and co-main events were featured in the ‘Countdown to UFC 181.’
Aside from the typical behind-the-scenes training and home life footage, we also hear from Hendricks on his biceps tear that he suffered in the first bout with Lawler and the recovery. As for Lawler, we go back and get a look at his quick journey back to a title shot, with back-to-back wins over top Welterweights Jake Ellenberger and Matt Brown.
For the co-main event we look back at the last time Anthony Pettis stepped foot in the octagon, which was also his hometown UFC title victory which took place over a year ago. Among other things, we take another trip to the past to see Melendez’s storied history as Strikeforce champion and his closely contested split decision loss in his UFC debut to then UFC Lightweight champion Benson Henderson.
