It’s the fight that we all knew was going to happen, pretty much around the time that we knew it was going to happen and it has been officially announced. That’s right, Jon Jones will officially defend his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against Alexander Gustafsson in Toronto at UFC 165 on Sept. 21st.
This will be Jon Jones defending his title for the sixth time since winning it from Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in 2011 and will be Gustafsson’s first real shot at the big time.
It is an interesting location to choose for a Jon Jones fight against a fighter who is European, as neither one of them are really proven draws in Canada. Hell, no one outside of GSP is really a proven draw in Canada, but Canada is still on the upswing when it comes to MMA, so it could indeed be a good night for all those involved.
