NJ.com Does a Pretty Great Piece on Traumatic Brain Injuries in MMA
Looked, we’ve all heard the propaganda before; MMA is the safest, most regulated sport in the world. Fighters are watched under a microscope and there have yet to really be any big MMA tragedies, at least on a bigger scale. Of course, this neglects the fact that MMA is a relatively new sport in the grand scheme of things and that fighters haven’t really had a chance to get to the same level of scrutiny that Boxers and football players see yet.
We’ve all heard it and seen it though, the fighter who is still pretty young but looks a lot older than they really are, the fighter who seems punchdrunk, slurring his words and having short term memory problems. It is only going to get worse before it gets better. Why? Because it may be a sport that we love, but it’s a sport that involves brain trauma as an integral part of it.
NJ.com has put together a rather compelling piece about brain trauma in MMA and yes, it is a very long read, but I recommend that you check it out. Read it here.
