Nick Diaz Arrested in California

UFC Welterweight Nick Diaz has been arrested. Diaz was arrested in Lodi, CA on September 6th on charges of suspicion of DUI, obstructing a police officer, destruction of evidence and driving with a suspended license.

It was confirmed that Diaz did not resist arrest, but was given a sobriety test upon processing. Diaz was given a choice between a blood test or breathalyzer and chose the latter. Before taking his sobriety test, Diaz reportedly used the restroom beforehand and attempted to induce vomiting. Officers commanded him to stop doing such, but their multiple commands were ignored.

Diaz was released from Lodi City Jail just hours after his arrest. No court date has been set, but it will take place within the next two weeks.

Here’s what UFC officials had to say on the matter: “We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering the facts. We understand that there is a legal process that will now take place and that Nick Diaz will have the opportunity to address the situation in the near future.”

There is no word on how or if this will affect Diaz’s fighting status, as he was set to take on former UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva in the main event of UFC 183 on January 31st, 2015. [source]
