There are times when I really wish that fighters would pass on that next interview, or maybe they’d take a few moments to collect and organize their thoughts before they make a statement. Then again, I’d have nothing to write about if MMA fighters did what they were supposed to do, so I guess we’ll take the good with the bad and move on. The latest in the headscratchers category is UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo talking about TRT usage in MMA, most likely fueled by Vitor Belfort and his impassioned defense of the career-extending wonder-treatment.
Jose Aldo thinks that it is okay to use it, citing Randy Couture as a past hero who was on it, but then clarifies that he isn’t doing it, nor is anyone within his camp. Everyone else does it, or steroids, though. Okay.
“I don’t see the problem with using TRT. Everybody uses [steroids], from the champion to the newcomer,” he said.
I believe we [from Nova Uniao] are the only ones that don’t do that, because Andre (Pederneiras) was always against steroids. I think it’s wrong to criticize someone who came forward and said they take TRT.
“Americans always used [it.] Randy Couture fought until he was 50, and people say he was clean? If the doctors prescribe you and you’re on the limits, OK, I see no problem. If I need that one day, I will use TRT too.”
