UFC 187 is stacked, plain and simple. As reported on UFC Tonight, the event will feature two title fights in the main and co-main events. A light heavyweight title bout between current UFC champion Jon Jones and number one contender Anthony Johnson will headline the card, while a middleweight title bout between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort will serve as the co-main event.
In addition to the two title fights, the UFC’s memorial day card will also feature what looks to be a number one contender bout at lightweight between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov; as well as a heavyweight clash in third ranked Travis Browne taking on seventh ranked, former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. Lastly, a flyweight meeting between Joseph Benavidez and John Moraga will round out the main card.
Jones, who has been champion for nearly four years, is looking to successfully defend his belt for a ninth straight time. His opponent, Anthony Johnson, has found great success since moving to the light heavyweight division and is currently riding a nine-fight winning streak, mostly recently defeating former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson via first round TKO.
On the other hand, UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will be once again returning from injury, and will finally meet Vitor Belfort in their long-awaited bout. Weidman will be making his third title defense, while Belfort, who has been on the shelf for nearly two years, is riding a three-fight knockout streak, all via head kick.
UFC 187 is set to take place on May 23rd in Las Vegas, Nevada, a venue has yet to be announced.
