Jon Jones Loses Nike Deal, Fined & Given Community Service

UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones has lost his endorsement deal with Nike.

At a hearing with the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) on Tuesday, September 23rd, Jones confirmed that he had lost the deal with Nike which was worth “over six figures,” following his August 4th media day brawl with Cormier in Las Vegas.

According to Jones’ lawyer Ofir Ventura, Jones also lost another potential six-figure sponsorship. The company involved in this sponsorship was not disclosed.

In addition to losing his deal with Nike and another potential deal, both Jones and Cormier have been fined ten percent of their upcoming fight purses and are both required to complete community service.

Jones’ fine will be for $50,000 and he will need to complete 40 hours of community service in Las Vegas, while Cormier has been fined $9,000 and will be required to complete 20 hours of community service in his hometown of San Jose.

Both men have avoided suspension and will still meet in the octagon in the main event of UFC 182 which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. [source]
