When Jake Shields was cut by the UFC there was a bit of an uproar. Why cut Jake Shields? Sure, he’s not the most exciting MMA fighter in the world, but he’s still a top level Welterweight. Well, it didn’t take long for Jake Shields to find himself a new home, as he will move to World Series of Fighting. That’s right, it is official. It should come as no shock that Shields chose WSOF.
World Series of Fighting has done a lot of work bulking up their Welterweight division, plus the UFC has shown in the past that they are willing to do business with fighters who were involved with WSoF. So for Jake Shields this seems like a temporary displacement before he can attempt to return to the UFC yet again. Shields released a statement through BleacherReport. [source]
“I am very excited to be fighting for the World Series of Fighting. They have one of if not the best welterweight divisions in the world and I look forward to fighting great fighters like Jon Fitch, Rousimar Palhares, Josh Burkman, Gerald Harris and more,” Shields said in a statement to Bleacher Report. “I also believe I will now be in an environment where fighters are embraced which will allow my performance at my very best! My first fight for WSOF will be soon so stay tuned. My thanks to the MMA community and fans for all the love and support.”
