Fourth ranked Light Heavyweight Glover Teixeira will meet sixth ranked Phil Davis is the co-main event of UFC 179. The two top-ranked 205ers both lost their most recent outings at UFC 172 via unanimous decision. Texieira fell short in his championship bout against Jon Jones, while Johnson to a loss to now fifth ranked Anthony Johnson.
The winner of the UFC 179 between Teixeira and Davis will remain a top contender, while the other will have to work their way back from a two-fight losing streak.
Before the two meet, take a look back at Teixeira’s bout from September of 2013 against Ryan Bader. This one was quick and wild. Bader hurt Teixeira early, but Teixeira would recover and knock Bader out less than three minutes into the first round. The victory over Bader earned Teixeira his title shot.
