I can only imagine what it’s like to have your jaw broken then wired shut. I hate anything that has to do with mouth pain. Getting my wisdom teeth removed was hard enough, but for Eddie Wineland to have his jaw broken for a second time against Johny Eduardo at UFC Fight Night 40, it has him contemplating if this is all worth it. He said this to MMAJunkie:
“I’m just not so sure it’s worth the risk, I’ve got a lot I need to wrestle with right now.” “I never wanted to go through this again, and now I surely don’t ever want to go through it again. It was the most miserable time of my life.” “I’ve got some serious thinking to do. I’m just not so sure the juice is worth the squeeze. I just need to take a step back and look at the big picture.”
As someone who is also a full-time firefighter, something like a broken jaw can seriously inhibit the day job, which makes this doubly painful. How awful is it that a UFC contender has to hold down a day job?
