Donald Cerrone to Replace Jorge Masvidal; Will Fight Bobby Green

It looks like Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will be making an appearance at UFC 178, just not against Eddie Alvarez as previously rumored. In just over a month on September 27th, fourth ranked Lightweight Cerrone will take on seventh ranked Bobby Green in the co-main event of UFC 178.

Cerrone, who is currently riding a four-fight winning streak, has stated that he wants to fight six times in 2014; so far he has fought three times on the year and has finished all three opponents. Included in those three wins are a knockout victory over Jim Miller and a submission win over Edson Barboza.

As for Green, he has accumulated eight straight victories (4 Strikeforce, 4 UFC). His most recent victory came at UFC on FOX 12, a split decision over former Strikeforce Lightweight champion Josh Thomson.

In addition, Green’s original opponent, 12th ranked Jorge Masvidal, will still be fighting at UFC 178, but will instead face James Krause.
