Dominick Cruz Vacates Bantamweight Title; Barao vs. Faber to Headline UFC 169

Things just can’t go well for Dominick Cruz, the now former UFC Bantamweight champion has vacated his title due to suffering a groin tear whilst training for UFC 169 in attempts to defend the Bantamweight title against Renan Barao.

Cruz has been sidelined for over two years with multiple ACL tears, his last fight being in October of 2011. With Cruz stepping aside due to another injury, interim champion Renan Barao now becomes the UFC Bantamweight champion and will defend his belt in a rematch against Urijah Faber at UFC 169.

“Faber fought four times last year and won all four impressively,” said UFC president Dana White “Thank God he wanted to step up on three weeks notice. He’s pumped about it.”

Hopefully Cruz will be able to heal up and make an attempt at reclaiming the Bantamweight title, but at this point it’s hard to tell if Cruz will be able to return to the octagon, let alone fight for the title.
