Countdown to UFC 179: Aldo vs. Mendes 2

Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes will be squaring off in the main event of UFC 179 on Saturday, October 25th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the UFC Featherweight championship.

Mendes is the consensus number one contender in the UFC Featherweight division and following a five-fight winning streak, which includes four knockouts, has earned a second chance at taking the title from long-time champion Jose Aldo.

Aldo and Mendes first met at UFC 142 in January of 2012. Aldo defeated Mendes via knockout four minutes and 59 seconds into the first round, once again retaining his title and giving Mendes the first loss of his career. Following his victory over Mendes, Aldo would defend his belt three more times, defeating some of the best fighters in the world and elongating his winning streak to 17 straight victories.

In ‘Countdown’ to UFC 179, we get a look back at the first meeting between Aldo and Mendes, as well as the journeys of both men from that point to present day. We also get the “behind-the-scenes” look at the training that goes into preparing for a world title fight, as well as the out of octagon obligations that high profile fighters have, such as interviews and media days.

In addition to the main event, we dive deeper into the co-main event, which pits fourth ranked UFC Light Heavyweight Glover Teixeira against sixth ranked Phil Davis. As well as a bout between Lightweights Diego Ferreira and Beneil Dariush.
