Charles Oliveira Removed From UFC Fight Night 50 Bout with Nik Lentz

Another night of UFC fights, another fight scrapped from a card.

While this is nowhere close to the disaster that UFC 177 was, another fight has been scrapped, this time from UFC Fight Night 50. The fight being alluded to is a Featherweight bout between Charles Oliveira vs. Nik Lentz.

Yesterday Oliveira weiged in at 150 pounds, four pounds above the Featherweight limit. It turns out that Oliveira fell ill the week of the fight.

“I was sick for the past week in Brazil, and I was pretty bad when I got to the United States, I couldn’t cut weight, and I’m not feeling well to cut weight, so that’s why I missed weight. I had high fever, headache. I think it was a viral infection. But I was the one who asked for this fight, so I couldn’t withdraw.” Oliveira told MMAFighting.com.

It looked like Oliveira was going to compete Friday night and forfeit 20 percent of his purse to Lentz, but doctors would later decide to pull him from the event.

The UFC will pay Lentz both his show and win money.

UFC Fight Night 50 takes place Friday, September 5th at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT.  The card will air on FOX Sports 1 beginning at 7 p.m. EST. [source]
