Benson Henderson Admits to Confusing Dagestani Lightweights

This weekend here in Albuquerque, New Mexico Benson Henderson will step into the ring against Rustam Khabilov, but initially Bendo thought that he was fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov. Kind of funny, right? I mean, I get it, as Khabilov and Khabib are pretty close to each other and not many of us have had many interactions with Dagestanis here in the United States. Benson Henderson is quick to own up to his own mistake, at least.

Here’s what Henderson had to say for himself last night on Fox Sports 1’s UFC Tonight, “Sadly that’s a true story. I saw a Tweet and I saw a Russian name and I thought it was Khabib Nurmagomedov because they had a hard time finding him an opponent.”

But Bendo snapped to his mistake once he started actually prepping for the fight. Here’s what he has to say about his actual opponent, “He’s a great Sambo guy, a world class wrestler. Any time you’ve got two great grapplers going at it, it can end up being a stand-up war. We’re ready for anything, a lot of grappling or a stand up war, just throwing a lot of bombs.”
