The Xbox 360 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider isn’t being developed by Crystal Dynamics

The Xbox 360 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider is being developed by Nixxes Software, not Crystal Dynamics, Square Enix has revealed.

The last gen version’s outsourced development will, according to head of studios Darrell Gallagher, allow Crystal Dynamics to focus on fully realising the Xbox One version without being compromised by the limits set by the Xbox 360’s aged hardware.

“We’re wholly focused on Rise being an Xbox One title without limitation, without even thinking of the Xbox 360 version,” Gallagher said in the latest issue of Game Informer. “At the same time, the Xbox 360’s ecosystem is still super strong.

“There are millions of players out there who have an Xbox 360 and those console translations take time. So we did a test. Nixxes put together a tech demo of Rise of the Tomb Raider content running on the 360, and we were totally blown away by what they achieved. But the existence of that game isn’t limiting our work on the Xbox One version.”

The game is scheduled to come out this winter for the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
