Telltale Games is developing a story-driven episodic Minecraft game, the developer has surprisingly announced. The developers are already working on Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and Tales from the Borderlands, so it’s pretty surprising to see another game annoucement from the team.
“Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang,” says Telltale. “Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice.”
The standalone game is set to be available on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Mac, iOS and Android, and will “mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience”. The game is being developed in collaboration with members of the Minecraft community to make it “as Minecrafty as possible”.
Mojang says the first episode will be released “some time in 2015”.
“We’re not intending on creating an ‘official’ story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail,” commented Mojang. “It will be a cool game.”
