Assassin’s Creed: Unity will have Microtransactions

Microtransactions have become a bit of a staple among recent releases, and it looks like Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be the next title to contain buyable content.  Ubisoft did state however that the inclusion of microtransactions won’t drastically change the game’s core values.

Speaking with OXM after a presentation at gamescom 2014 this week, senior producer Vincent Pontbriand told the site this was “pretty much” the extent of microtransactions in the new title. He also stated such models would not be adopted into core game experiences unless it “made sense”.

“Companion apps, monetisation, other business models, digital only… We have to be reactive to these things, but not necessarily fundamentally change what we’re trying to do,” he said. “It depends. If we think it fits the gameplay, or the brand itself, the core values, we’re willing to take those risks.  If not, then not. We’re not going to make any compromises.”
