Star Citizen Crowdfunding Pulls in Record $48 Million

Star Citizen, the massively popular title that is being developed thanks to hitting record breaking crowdfunding goals, has reached another big milestone.  The game has now reached $48 million in backings, leading to Cloud Imperium boss Chris Roberts announcing a new $50 million stretch goal.  The sales goal was met due to recent Dogtag sales, which has given the developers the opportunity to create a new commercial for the game, an ad that Roberts will script himself.

The $50 million stretch goal “will truly improve the immersion” by adding Alien Languages, which will have real-world linguists creating “distinctive and realistic alien languages for Star Citizen’s three biggest alien races.”

“No universal translators, no garbled animal noises: Star Citizen’s aliens will be speaking their own authentic languages,” reads the post from Roberts. “I’m excited about this one… and looking forward to meeting the first fan who learns to speak one of our languages.”

Star Citizen is scheduled to launch on PC in 2015.
