Following his arrest and later release, Thiago Silva will be making his return to the UFC.
Silva was arrested on February 6th following an encounter with police that involved gun play at the Pablo Popovitch Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Oakland Park, Florida. The incident stemmed from problems involving Silva’s ex-wife Thaysa Kamiji and her new partner, Pablo Popovitch. Claims were made that Silva held a gun in Kamiji’s mouth and allegedly threatened to shoot up Popovitch’s gym.
Despite her accusations, Kamiji was reportedly “uncooperative” with police and is believed to have left the country. This resulted in a Florida judge dropping the charges against Silva on Thursday, September 4th.
Due to the change in circumstance it seems that UFC President Dana White’s past claim that Silva would “never fight in the UFC again” will fail to hold true.
Silva is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, earning victories of Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante and Matt Hamill.
