Episode 35- UFC 125: Resolution Preview – MMANUTS

Leave it to the UFC to start the new year off with a bang as they bring us UFC 125: Resolution from Las Vegas on January 1st, 2011. This card features exciting bouts that will lay the foundation for the upper echelon of the mixed martial arts landscape.

Current Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar shocked the world when he beat BJ Penn not once but twice in 2010. Even so, the odds are stacked against him in this rematch with Gray Maynard according to many in the mixed martial arts community. The biggest question in this fight, is if Edgar has an “Answer” for Maynard’s smothering style that has kept him undefeated for his entire career.

Chris Leben has arguably the best chin in mixed martial arts and comes off a string of victories in 2010 that has fans excited for his potential in the coming year. Brian Stann is tough as nails and asked Joe Silva for this fight with Leben to prove it to MMA fans once and for all. While the skill sets of both fighters are not necessarily equal, this one should get the fans out of their seats as both guys try to NOT leave this to the judges.

Brandon “the truth” Vera vs Thiago Silva matches up two excellent strikers for a battle of wills in the octagon. Silva has only lost twice in his career, both times to former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions in Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida. Vera’s career has been equally exciting as disappointing while he continues to show flashes of greatness only to lose to opponents he should beat easily. This fight should stay standing with someone likely to get brutally knocked out!`

Nate Diaz brings a polarizing attitude every time he enters the cage. His recent move up to Welterweight has him looking stronger, sharper, and more dominating in every aspect of his mixed martial arts game. Dong Hyun Kim will need every bit of his superior grappling skills to bring the fight to the younger Diaz in a matchup that has potential for fight, submission, or knockout of the night bonuses.

Fan favorite Clay “The Carpenter” Guida has strung together an impressive set of submission victories since joining Team Jackson in 2010. Takanori “The Fireball Kid” Gomi lived up to his nickname recently with an explosive knockout victory over Tyson Griffin. With the lightweight division about to get a whole lot more interesting, both fighters are looking to send a message to incoming prospects and earn their way to a title shot.
