Jon Jones to Grace Cover of EA Sports UFC

UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones will be one of two fighters to grace the cover of EA Sports UFC which will be hitting shelves on May 5th, 2014.

Jones hold a professional MMA record of 19-1, with his one loss coming via disqualification. Jones is known to many for being the youngest UFC champion of all-time at 23 years, 243 days old when he defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128.

Since then, Jones has cemented himself as the greatest Light Heavyweight in MMA history. Besides being the youngest champion in UFC history, he also broke Tito Ortiz’s record for most consecutive title defenses in the weight class. This wasn’t an easy task, Jones had to go through four former UFC champions and two very tough contenders to do so.

Jones’ most recent bout, a unanimous decision victory over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 was an evenly matched, back-and-forth battle that is currently a front runner for “Fight of the Year” and gave Jones his sixth straight title defense.

As for Jones’ next title defense, it will be taking place against Glover Teixeira which is likely to be taking place at UFC 170.

“It’s another one of those surreal moments, one of those moments you just have to step back and pinch yourself and realize I’m not dreaming,” Jones said on being selected.
With all of the hype leading up to the UFC’s new game, you may be wondering, what’s so special about it? Well the answer is that the UFC has finally made their long-awaited partnership with the big boys over at EA Sports. Which means they have parted ways with THQ who created the first three UFC Undisputed video games.

While Jones has definitely earned his place on the cover of the UFC’s inaugural game with EA Sports, he will have to share the spotlight with one of his UFC co-workers.

The second fighter to be featured on the games’ cover will be decided by a cover vote, which will begin today and will end on December 1st. The official retail cover will be revealed at UFC 168.

The 16 candidates for the second cover spot are Demetrious Johnson, Dominick Cruz, Urijah Faber, Jose Aldo, Anthony Pettis, Benson Henderson, Georges St-Pierre, Johny Hendricks, Chris Weidman, Junior dos Santos, Chael Sonnen, Michael Bisping, Daniel Cormier, Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate and Gustafsson.

The vote, will consists of a weekly, round-by-round, head-to-head elimination tournament, which is similar to the way EA Sports has decided who will grace the cover of their recent games, including Madden NFL 25. Fans can vote for fighters as often as possible on the voting site and can also vote via Twitter by tweeting “Twitter Vote Thursdays.” Each tweet with that hashtag will count as two votes.

This game isn’t just hype. The pre-alpha gameplay trailer proves just that and more. Check it out here:
