GLORY 16 Preview

On Saturday, May 3rd in Broomfield, Colorado GLORY 16 will emanate live into your living rooms via Spike TV at 9pm Eastern time. That means that more high-end Kickboxing action will be bombarding you this Saturday night on free TV, which is nothing to scoff at in the year 2014. So what to expect?

GLORY will crown a Welterweight Champion! Pat Barry makes his debut! An awesome one-night Heavyweight Contender tournament!

That is quite a night.

Errol Zimmerman vs. Ben Edwards – This is the first round of the Heavyweight Contender tournament and probably one of the best fights of the night on paper. Errol Zimmerman hits like a mack truck and so does Ben Edwards. Both of these guys could walk away with this tournament in the bag, which makes this fight a must-watch for fans. It also means that there will be fireworks. We all like fireworks, right?

Sergei Kharitonov vs. Anderson Silva – Anderson Silva not only shares a name with one of the all-time greats in MMA, he’s also an incredibly skilled striker. He’ll test his mettle against PRIDE and Strikeforce veteran Sergei Kharitonov and try to overcome the Russian’s crushing power with his saccharine technique. Consider Anderson Silva as my darkhorse for the entire tournament.

Pat Barry vs. Zack Mwekassa – Pat Barry has never been in a boring fight, Pat Barry is also always looking for the big finish, that makes his GLORY debut that much more exciting. Zach Mwekassa is called the African Tyson, which automatically makes him a bad ass. Will he spoil Pat Barry’s triumphant GLORY debut? Only time will tell.

Marc de Bonte vs. Karapet Karapetyan – This one is for the GLORY Welterweight Championship between two guys who had floated between weight divisions before settling on GLORY’s uber-competitive Welterweight division. Marc de Bonte is going into this fight looking to prove himself after he was pulled from the GLORY 13 Welterweight tournament, which makes him incredibly dangerous.

All in all, GLORY 16 is shaping up to be an incredible night of fights. Don’t forget to tune in at 9pm Eastern time to Spike TV for GLORY 16.
