Dana White Explains the Logic Behind Jimi Manuwa vs. Alexander Gustafsson

If you are like me, you were scratching your head at the announcement of Alexander Gustafsson vs. Jimi Manuwa. Alexander Gustafsson should realistically be rematching Jon Jones, although Jon Jones believes that everyone should fight each other and he should be allowed to pick over the remnants. If Jon Jones thought that Gustafsson fighting Lil Nog was a stretch for a title shot I wonder how he feels about Jimi Manuwa?

Dana White was pressed about the decision to throw Jimi Manuwa into the fire against Gustafsson and his answer is logical. Yes, it is logical. The point is that Daniel Cormier is the logical fight, but Cormier has never made weight at 205 before, so why immediately get him into title contention if they aren’t sure he can make the cut? “Cormier has never made it to 205 before,” White told media members on yesterday’s UFC conference call (listen here). “The fight is going to be over in London and Manuwa is undefeated. He’s undefeated and he’s a big, nasty striker and he’s a light heavyweight.”
