Bellator 97: Askren and Chandler Defend Their Respective Titles

Last night’s Bellator saw some decent action here in Albuquerque, New Mexico as they put forth one of their biggest cards of the summer featuring two title defenses as well as King Mo fight on the card. The two title defenses were Welterweight Champion Ben Askren defending against Andrey Koreshkov and Michael Chandler defending the Lightweight Championship against David Rickels.

Chandler made incredibly short work of Rickels in just 44 seconds of the first round with a flurry of punches, forcing the ref to step in and stop the fight. Then, the pleasant surprise was Ben Askren stopping Koreshkov late in the fourth round with some punches from the back mount position. Both men securing their Championships in a dominating fashion only helps Bellator out, as does the next biggest fight, which featured King Mo Lawal defeating Jacob Noe in the third round via stoppage in the Bellator Summer Series Light Heavyweight tournament.
