It’s the fighting equivalent to Arrested Development coming back on the air. Body shots are under appreciated gems in a world of head shots, but maybe, just maybe, if we work together, more people will notice the greatness that Bas Rutten has been preaching for years.

Liver shots, baby.

When Anthony Pettis took down Cerrone with a shot at UFC on FOX 6, it seemed to set the par for UFC shows, now we’re seeing someone go down via bodyshots almost every show. Remember UFC on FOX: Henderson vs. Melendez with Joseph Benavidez crumpling Darren Uyenoyama? Yeah. Now we see John Lineker working the body of Azamat Gashimov.

Thanks to Reddit for the .GIF.

Sure, I know people that say stats in MMA are meaningless, and that can sometimes prove true. What exactly is a significant strike? Are Chael's pitter patter strikes to the head of Anderson Silva at UFC 117 significant? That's arguable, but in a fight as close as the one we saw last night between Evan Dunham and Rafael dos Anjos, Fight Metric is a great gift. At least in my opinion. Take a look at the stats below and decide for yourself who won last night's bout.

A good portion of my formative years were spent listening to music, reading novels and watching movies by artists who normally used and abused drugs, so much so that it barely has any negative bearings in my mind. I remember, fondly, throughout high school sitting in a dark room and listening to “Third Eye” by Tool, starting off with a rant by Bill Hicks that talks about drug use. Even if I never got too into the drug scene or went too far into the rabbit hole that was alcohol, it is still something that I understand on an intimate level and accept. Many tend to agree with that.

When it comes to sports, though, drugs and performance enhancers take on a whole new meaning. All of a sudden it is not about expression and creativity, but it is about an advantage, it is about cheating nature. I’m not sure that using it in artistic endeavours is much different, but few people outside of the drug user walks away with much in the way of physical damage. When it comes to sports we look at “safety” and pretty much view only physical safety of the competitors. If someone is taking something that we call a performance enhancing drug, it could help them to physically harm their opponent, as well as gain an unfair advantage.

The more that I think about it, the more that I understand that some of my favorite fighters in history have been “rrrrrrreally fucking high on drugs” in their careers outside of the United States and that it really does nothing to taint them. Even if we all have this consensus understanding that there was no drug testing in PRIDE or K-1 back in the day and that anything was fair game, which meant that some of those classic fights were indeed “tainted” by PEDs, they are still classics that helped to solidify our fandom and love for fighting. They are still some of the best fights and fighters ever.

So Vitor Belfort scores a win over Luke Rockhold in Brazil using a spinning back kick to the face (which I will always call the Leko Buster) and a lot of talk is going around about Vitor and his history with TRT. I’ve actually always been opposed to TRT and its use in MMA, but the more that I think about how drugs have influenced some of the great works in history that have influenced me so heavily, it is difficult to look at a guy like Vitor Belfort who is adding years onto his career through the use of testosterone treatment and outright scold him.

Most writers, musicians and filmmakers aren’t physically harming their peers through their use of drugs -- which in some cases can indeed “enhance” their performance in creating works of art -- but they are “cheating” to get a leg up, which can damage their peers financially as well as mentally. If life is simply a macrocosm, expanding of the schoolyard world that we grew up in where we competed to be popular, cool or to get girls to notice us, how can we point fingers at Vitor Belfort for doing everything in his power to cement his legacy?

I might never find myself as a real fan of TRT or for fighters to use it, but I find myself criticizing it less and less because sometimes to make entertaining fights you have to do something that is wrong, just like artists need something to stimulate themselves to create something that you know and love. If this is how Vitor needs to squeegee off his third eye to fight, so be it.

Vitor Belfort is one of those fighters that has been wildly inconsistent over the years, as he was originally one of the best around, then fell off, then kind of came back, then failed, then came back. People have been prepared to be disappointed with Belfort for ages now, but he has done a great job of keeping his name on the tip of fight fans' tongues and showed exactly why tonight against Luke Rockhold.

Luke Rockhold, the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, is a tough, young fighter who was looking to make his mark on the UFC starting tonight. The thing is, Vitor Belfort wasn't ready to let that happen just yet as he had a few new moves in his bag of tricks. The move that dropped jaws worldwide was the spinning back kick that connected flush on Rockhold's jaw, flattening him and putting Vitor and his new Mullet Mohawk on the map.

There has been talk about the winner of this fight getting a shot at Anderson Silva, so don't be shocked if we see Vitor get another shot at Anderson down the line. What would you guys think about that? Check out the finish thanks to Zombie Prophet.

There have been a lot of guys who were successful in Japan and Strikeforce but couldn't quite cut it in the UFC, but Jacare is not looking to be one of those guys. Chris Camozzi is a game opponent but Ronaldo Souza has just become such a force now that he has added some comprehensive striking to the mix.

The fight began and Jacare was already showing off his improved striking. Camozzi did his best to avoid it, but the fight quickly went to the ground where it just seemed like a matter of time before Jacare and his legendary grip did some damage. Camozzi fought Jacare off as best he could, with Jacare having to back off a few times, but never let Camozzi up. Finally he slipped on an arm triangle and in an instant Camozzi was out, not even getting a chance to tap out!

Luckily enough for the UFC there are other big bouts on the card, namely Mauricio Rua vs. Antoino Rogerio Nogueira and Rashad Evans vs. Dan Henderson if need be. There is always room for a replacement, but you'd have to wonder if they'd create another Interim Champion, creating three champions in one weight division. Mark Hunt had a run-in with the law in 2002 here in the United States, which has apparently become an issue for the fighter, who has been having a hell of a time getting into the United States. Hunt has fought in the United States since that arrest, which makes the situation all the more ridiculous, in both 2003 and 2011.

The latest on the situation is that he is expected to be here on Monday, but that is still not certain as all of the other certain deadlines have been missed at this point. Then, to top it off, the replacement that the UFC had selected, Roy Nelson, has become a bit of a complicated situation for the UFC. Nelson has been granted a license for the fight, but the fight would be the last one on his current UFC contract, which has forced the UFC to renegotiate Nelson's contract with them, which seems to point to Nelson wanting more money, especially for stepping in on late notice like this to fight.

We'll keep you updated on this situation as it unfolds.

I feel like you have to see Vitor Belfort's Mullethawk in action to really understand why it is marvelous, if not one of the best hairstyles going in the UFC today. We all know that there are some shenanigans that go down at UFC weigh-ins; people get shoved, get in each other's faces and sometimes there is a pull apart.

What if all of the above happen while involving Vitor Belfort in what many can only explain as a TRT-infused rage because he and Luke Rockhold shoved each other? Vitor Belfort is really pumped up and ready to fight tomorrow, but he is also a man of Christ and a a man of the people, as he salutes the crowd. Go ahead and check out this GIF, brought to you by the esteemed Zombie Prophet and enjoy.
